Home Ac Repair

When your home air conditioner suddenly stops working it can be quite a difficult time for you. This is because you are simply not being able to understand whether the problem is of a serious nature or it is as simple as broken fuse. When the AC stops functioning there may be times when there is no other option but to take the help of a professional expert while there may be instances where you can take care of the problem all by yourself. Most of the times when a room air conditioner stops functioning the reason is improper maintenance. So, if you want that your air conditioner functions well and require less repairs it is better to carry out maintenance activities at regular intervals.

Some of the common instances when your air conditioner stops working and you can do something to take care of it are the following:

In case your air conditioner has stopped working, you could check the outside unit and find out whether the condenser is running fine. You also need to check if the unit is plugged in and the thermostat is rightly set. Sometimes lowering the thermostat by 5 to 10 degrees might solve your problem. Another thing that you can do is go through the manual so that you do not miss any points.

It can be so that as a homeowner you feel that you are not as comfortable with your air conditioner as you were last year. One of the probable reason for this could be a dirty filter. Hence, the first thing that you need to do in such a case is to change the air filter immediately. In fact, it is a good practice to change air filters once in a month or at least once in two months.

If you realize that you AC is contributing to high electricity bills, you might as well blame a choked condenser. A condenser is located within the outdoor unit and has several fins just like the radiator of the car. It is highly possible that there is accumulation of dirt and dust in those fins. If that is the scenario you need to call in an expert who will clean the condenser and your unit will start operating efficiently once again.

Sometimes it is noticed that the AC shuts off long before or after the comfort level is reached. This is mainly due to improper location of the thermostat. The thermostat may be placed directly under the sun, to close to a register or near a hot oven. In that case relocating the thermostat might solve your problem.

Last but not the least, whenever you try to carry out some DIY methods to repair your home air conditioner it is mandatory to unplug the device. This is important because home air conditioners have one or two capacitors located behind the control panel and they store electricity even when the device is turned off. Discharging the decapitator is also necessary to prevent you from getting severe shocks. Also, keeping the user manual nearby proves handy when you are repairing your home air conditioner.
