Hvac Maintenance

Both during the summers and winters the heating and cooling system of your home plays an important role to keep you comfortable. It is true that most of the times an HVAC system needs attention from a trained professional but sometimes you can also do certain things to keep the problems at bay. To put it simply, HVAC maintenance needs to be carried out regularly in order to keep the system running smoothly. A simple maintenance plan will not only save you from preventing loads of money but also you can prolong the life of your HVAC system. However, when the fault is out of your understanding it is a better idea to get in touch with a trained HVAC professional.

Some of the things that you can do by yourself to ensure a long life of your HVAC system are the following:

 • Change filters at regular intervals: A system which has dirty filters needs to work harder to remove the inside air and push in the cool air into the rooms. When the filter works hard it is obvious that the wear and tear on the machine is also more. In fact, a clean filter also helps in energy saving. Hence, it is recommended that you change the filters of your HVAC system at least once in every three months.

• Try to inspect your HVAC system visually at regular intervals. This is important because if you can catch the problem at a nascent stage the amount spent will not be that higher. Problems like frozen coils, water leaks, dirty condenser or evaporator might cause for professional help. So you must keep a careful eye.

 • Keeping an eye on the thermostat: If you turn your thermostat one or two degrees higher in summer while a few degrees lower in winter, it can save a lot of wear and tear in your machine.

• During all the seasons try to remove debris like leaves, pol lens, twigs, and other things from the top and sides of the outside air conditioning unit and heat pump on a weekly basis.

• Try to ensure that outdoor air conditioning unit and heat pumps are placed on firm and level grounds.

• It is never a good idea to close more than 20% of a home’s registers so that no unnecessary strain is placed on the HVAC system.

• It is important to replace the carbon monoxide detector battery in your home once in a year

Besides, these there are certain things that you need to keep in mind as part of your HVAC maintenance:

If you have a combination of both heating and cooling system, you need to carry out professional maintenance once during the spring and the fall.

In case of a cooling system only, you can carry out maintenance only once in a year that is before the commencement of the cooling season.

Last but not the least, for furnace maintenance you need to undertake maintenance activity once before the heating season.

Thus, take good care of your HVAC system and enjoy a comfortable temperature within your home.
